Italian conductor Massimiliano Murrali was born in Florence, Italy. He studied piano at the local conservatory ‘Luigi Cherubini’ with Giorgio Sacchetti and graduated ‘Summa cum Laude’.

He continued his studies at the ‘Hochschule Mozarteum’ in Salzburg with Alfons Kontarsky and L. Spiri and he also participated in Masterclasses with Murray Perahia and Lazar Berman. He took masterclasses with Irvin Gage (Lieder) and Konstantin Bogino (Chamber Music).Furthermore, he studied ‘Phenomenology of music’ and conducting with Sergiu Celibidache and Pierro Bellugi.

As coach and assistant conductor he worked in some of the major opera houses and with major orchestras, among them La Scala di Milano, the Accademia the Santa Cecilia in Rome,  the Bayerische Staatsoper, the Staatsoper Hamburg, the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, the Israel Philharmonic and the Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal. He acquired a large repertoire.

He worked together with conductors as Kent Nagano, Lorin Maazel, Zubin Mehta, Riccardo Muti, Myung-Whun Chung and others.

As a conductor, Massimiliano Murrali is equally at home in lyric and in concert repertoire. Performances include ‘Madame Butterfly’ in Fukuoka/Japan with the Kyushu Symphony Orchestra, ‘Norma’ with the BBC Ulster Orchestra. He conducted ‘Maria Stuarda’ and ‘I due Foscari’ at the Gasteig – Philharmonie Munich, as well as at the ‘Teatro Massimo’ in Palermo.

He conducted an Opera Gala at the Herkulessaal in Munich with baritone Paolo Gavanelli. With the Orchestra dell’Accademia del Teatro alla Scala, he performed a gala at the Scala in Milan. They also performed gala concerts in Bad Kissingen with among other soloists Joseph Calleja, Norma Fantini and Robert Dean-Smith.He performed ‘l’Elisir d’Amore’ by Donizetti with the Münchner Rundfunkorchester.

Recently, he conducted the Verdi Requiem in Italy and in Munich. He performed ‘Le Villi’ with the Sofia Philharmoniker in Bulgaria. He toured in China with the Jangsu Province Symphony Orchestra of Nankino,the China Radio and Film Orchestra of Beijing, the Tianjin Symphony Orchestra and the Xi’an Symphony Orchestra.He was invited to conduct a further symphonic concert with the Xi’an Symphony Orchestra in March 2019.

Massimilio Murrali also performed in Chamber Music concerts and as accompanist at song recitals, as well in Europe (including performances at Cuvilliés Theater, Munich, Salle Gaveau and Théâtre du Châtelet, Paris, Festival de Menton, Savonnlina Festival, Finland,Teatro della Pergola, Florence and Queen Elisabeth Hall, London , in Asia (including also Japan and South Korea) and North America (Kurt Weil Hall at Carnegie New York, San Diego Opera House and others).

Due to his affinity with contemporary music, Massimiliano Murrali also participated in world premières of works by Luciano Berio, Mauricio Kagel, Aribert Reimann, Peter Eötvös and Jörg Widmann.
